Witches of the New Forest Character Sheets

There are many characters in my Witches of the New Forest series, and so I thought I would create character sheets for them all to help readers keep track of who’s who! Below you will find all of your favourite characters (and some perhaps not so favourable), their personality traits, powers and so on. Some you may not have come across yet, but you will later on in the series. Enjoy!

HUNTER WILLIAMS

Hunter is the careful and cautious elder of the Williams sisters. The youngest professor at her university in Ontario, Canada, she moved with her sister to the New Forest after they had inherited their aunt’s cottage on the edge of Burley. She is very protective of her sister, Ryder, and is sometimes overprotective, though it comes from a good place. Hunter is extremely intelligent but very shy and finds social situations awkward. She prefers to be and work her magick alone as a Hedge Witch, but rallies with the rest of the Witches when the need calls. She is kind and good-hearted, a sensitive soul who seeks out peace and quiet on her own as much as possible. She enjoys long hikes, studying (history and folklore especially), folk music, and is an accomplished singer. Hunter’s magickal elements are Earth and Air, and she used the World Tree and the Witch’s Compass in her hedge riding.

RYDER WILLIAMS

The younger of the Williams sisters, Ryder is a fun-loving, impetuous young woman with a love for life. She is smart (and smart-mouthed) and learns by doing, rather than studying. She leaps before she looks and finds herself often in very sticky situations, which become great lessons for her in honing her own magickal skills. She adores rock bands and singers, and often wears band-related t-shirts. Ryder is a romantic at heart, despite her bad-ass image. She loves love! Her magick is powerful and cannot be contained to any of the elements, but rather is a combination of them all. She enjoys mountain biking, watching movies (particularly Pride & Prejudice (2005 is her favourite), and hanging out with her friends at the pub.

JACK CALDECOTTE

Jack is a Druid, from one of the five magickal families that have lived in and around Burley for centuries. He is related to Elspeth Caldecotte, who is his older sister. He is a quiet and unassuming person who has combined his love of nature with his work as a New Forest Park Ranger. His mother was from Ireland, and he is passionate about his heritage and what that means to him as a Druid. Jack’s magickal element is Earth, and his green energy is extremely powerful. He is devoted to the goddess, Brighid.

ELSPETH CALDECOTTE

Elspeth is perhaps the most well-known Witch in Burley, owning a shop called The Covenstead. Most of the non-magickal folks believe that she is simply selling the Witchcraft myths and legends to the tourists who flock to the area, but Elspeth is an extremely powerful Witch from one of the five magickal families. She runs her own coven for the magickal community in and around Burley, where they can be themselves and acknowledge their powers openly and safely. She is always ready to aid any Witch and offers her knowledge and expertise willingly. She has a calm, elegant and graceful air about her. It takes a lot to ruffle her feathers, but when it happens, watch out! Elspeth works with the element of fire. She loves her tea, and it must always be served in proper china cups with saucers.

FINNVARR

The mysterious and elusive Fae man, Finnvarr, is an enigma to most of the Witches of the New Forest. He is often found wandering in the beech woods and appears out of the mist. He is seductive and alluring, yet frightening and Otherworldly. No one really knows what his agenda is, or just what his powers truly are. His magick is strong and often glamour-based. Is he a help or a hindrance to the Witches of the New Forest? Most likely, he is both, and then some.

DOUGAL WALKER

Dougal is a charming, giant of a man who works with Jack as a New Forest Park Ranger. Jack is, in fact, Dougal’s boss, but as they are also best friends, they treat each other as equals. Dougal is from Scotland and speaks with a thick brogue. Though some in his family are known as Buidseach or Witches, Dougal seems to lack that ability, and it has, instead, passed on to his younger brother, Mackenzie. Dougal is a fun-loving fellow who is often at the Queen’s Head pub enjoying a pint after a day of work in the New Forest. He is loyal and good-natured and helps the Witches in any way he can.

MACKENZIE WALKER

Younger brother to Dougal, Mackenzie is a shy, retiring young man whose interests lie in the paranormal and ghost-hunting in particular. He is a third-year student at the university in Portsmouth studying forensic psychology. He is also the head of the Paranormal Society at uni. Mackenzie, or Mack as he is often known, visits his brother in Burley on the weekends when he is able. He has a fine singing voice, but prefers ghost-hunting with his gadgets. He is a Buidseach, a Scottish Witch, and has inherited the family’s legacy of magick. He specialises in spirit magick and lore.

HARRIET SANDFORD

Harriet is a Witch from one of the five magickal families in and around Burley. She is an independent young woman who runs her own business. She operates her refill van (Boudica) and visits local markets around the New Forest with dry goods and other items. She is an energy worker and a healer, and can see other people’s auras. She is able to take bad energy within herself and release it, then heal over the area with her magick. She has a love of horses and often goes out riding with her own horse, Winnie.

THOMAS INGHAM

Thomas hails from one of the five magickal families in and around Burley. He is a member of Elspeth’s coven and works within it as Guardian. He is a natural-born protector and has skills in some of the martial arts. Thomas is a quiet presence, but his magick is strong. The elements that he works with are air and water. He owns a cycle centre near Burley and has a passion for cycling. He is also technically minded and works with computers, often volunteering his services to local people in need of assistance.

PC HART (DAVID)

Known as David to the locals of Burley, PC Hart is the officer assigned to the district that includes Burley. He is a lovely, amiable fellow who may know a thing or two about the underlying magick of the area, and who works to keep the secret of the Witches safe.

ALEXANDER HARDWICK (XANDER)

Xander Hardwick comes from the richest and most powerful magickal family in Burley. He is the middle child of three siblings. He is charming when he wants to be, arrogant and privileged at other times. He works most often with fire magick. He has had clashes with other Witches of the New Forest, but is there more to Xander’s behaviour than what first appears?

GERAINT HARDWICK

Xander’s father, Geraint Hardwick is the head of the richest and most powerful magical family in and around Burley. He is a shrewd businessman and of a stern character. Arrogance seems to run in his blood. Geraint is a very powerful Witch who specialises in air and fire magick. He has a history with Elspeth. But is there more to this man than what is locally known? What secrets could be hiding behind this commanding and authoritative individual?

DI GIDEON HAWKE

Detective Inspector Gideon Hawke has come to Burley to investigate the growing number of paranormal disturbances in the area and to find their source. Like his name, he has a keen sight and will stop at nothing to uncover the secrets that lie hidden in this most unusual place…

ROWAN CALDECOTTE

Elspeth’s daughter, Rowan, is a student at the university in Portsmouth. She alternates her weekends between living with her father and mother, who divorced a couple of years after she was born. She is a shy and retiring young woman, but, like her mother, can wield a huge amount of magickal energy when necessary. She is training in her mother’s coven and has aided the Witches of the New Forest, working with the coven from afar. Her specialities are water magick, astral projection and clairvoyance.
